The time required to design
and develop a new suspension program is in
many cases longer than the production life
cycle of that program. This is because the
suspension is a zero-defect product therefore
all aspects of the design must be proved prior
to entering mass production. The development
process entails numerous design iterations
coordinated with the customer, computer modeling
to simulate operating conditions within the
disk drive and proto-type manufacturing involving
a variety of destructive and non-destructive
tests. This rigorous process assures that
the suspension that arrives in the final disk
drive product is truly defect free and has
been thoroughly tested for performance and
reliability under all user conditions.
In addition to ongoing development of new
programs, our Research and Development Center
in the USA and Asia are working on new suspension
features and technology platforms to help
enhance their performance and extendibility.
Typically these advancements are expected
to be integrated into new suspensions within
the next three to five years.
As a result of our ongoing investment in R&D,
MPT has one of the strongest patent portfolios
in the suspension industry.
